Sunday
Morning Training Runs....
We
meet bright and early (and in any kind of weather) on Sunday mornings at the
Leonardo First Aid Station (aka
"The Clubhouse"!) (From Sandy Hook, take Hwy. 36 toward the Garden
State Parkway (GSP), turn right onto Thompson Ave. in Leonardo and left onto
Viola. The station will be on your left. From GSP Exit 117, go about 8 miles
and take the Hosford jughandle (just past Academy Bus on your right), turning back onto 36
going in the opposite direction, and follow the above directions. Note that if you
are coming from the GSP, you will see a Thompson Ave. in Keansburg.
This is not the one you want!) Groups generally run from 6 to 15 miles
(sometimes farther!) at various paces. Start time is 8am from Labor
Day thru Memorial Day, then 7am for the Summer. The course can be hilly or flat, (if you run
along the Henry Hudson Trail), and is shaded and scenic with a mix of paved and gravel
surfaces, as well as routes through Huber and Hartshorne woods on rough dirt trails.
Water and bathrooms are available at the First Aid Station and on course.
Afterwards, we feast on smoothies, bagels, pizza, soup, crumb buns
and other goodies. Call the NJRRC Hotline (732-578-1771) if it will be your first time at the Sunday Run!

Marathon
Training....
Training for a
marathon? Run with our "perpetual marathoners" group on Sunday mornings. This group generally runs a cycle of increasingly longer distances leading to a
20-Miler about every 3 weeks. (See the Sunday Run info above for more info.)

The New Jersey Marathon is actually a
weekend of events that includes not only a full 26.2-mile marathon for
runners and walkers, but 3-4 Person NJM Relay,
Long Branch Half
Marathon, Kids’ Races for the Homeless,
Family Marathon & 3 Mile Breakfast Run.
There is also a
Health and Fitness Expo and a Post-Race Buffet and Party.
Net proceeds from all events go to benefit various children's charities like Big Brothers Big Sisters, Rainbows, Inc., the Long Branch Police Athletic League,
Interfaith Hospitality Network,
Family and
Children's Services, the Marc Roberts Cancer Fund
and more.
As you can imagine, it takes a lot of volunteers to stage this weekend. If you'd
like to volunteer please send e-mail to
Tammy Wetzel at:
